E-waste is defined as electrical and electronic waste.
Electronic waste includes computers and peripherals (mouse
and keyboard), monitors, printers, servers, communications
equipment, photocopiers, faxes, etc. Electrical waste
includes things like power tools, small appliances, Play
Stations etc.Recent commissioned studies found that on
average each household contains about 22 items of e-waste.
This equates to about 12 million items of e-waste across the
Perth metro area. Working on a principal of a 5% disposal
rate, this suggests that about 615,000 items could be going
to landfill each year in Perth. E-waste is becoming a
predominant issue with local councils and corporations and
people in the community are seeking alternate methods of
disposal of e-waste.
Electronic equipment contains valuable materials that can
be recovered for reuse. Land filling results in these
materials unnecessarily being disposed of and hazardous
substances being released into the surrounding soil and
waterways and polluting the environment. The best and safest
way to dispose of such electronic equipment is to reuse
or recycle it.
CLAW Environmental is working toward a practical solution
for e-waste and has established an e-waste recycling program
out of our Welshpool recycling facility. As part of our
total environmental solution, materials such as ferrous, non
ferrous metals, plastics, batteries and packaging are
channelled to approved and accredited vendors
for recycling/treatment, ensuring responsible processing
solutions that minimize landfill.
Charges for e-waste recycling do apply. Please
contact us to discuss your requirements and we will
provide you with a comprehensive proposal and pricing.
